Miklós Székely

art historian

After graduating from the Pázmány Péter Catholic University with a degree in art history and French, he obtained a doctorate at the Doctoral School of Art History of Eötvös Loránd University. He worked for four years at the Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art, and since 2012 he has been a researcher at the Institute of Art History of the Research Center for the Humanities of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). He has taught as a university lecturer at the Károli Gáspár Reformed University, at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University, and since 2008 he has been an associate lecturer at the Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca in 19-20th century Hungarian art and collection history, as well as museology. He is one of the founders and the president of the CentrArt New Workshop for Art Historians, a non-profit organization.

His main research interests are the 19th century world exhibitions, museology, and collection history. Since 2014, he has been primarily researching the material and institutional history of Transylvania, applied art collections at the turn of the century, and industrial vocational schools related to architecture, furniture, and decorative arts.

At the conference, he will give his opinion on the topic of Museum is born.
